And when I gazed upon your face
I fell into a state of grace.
For in your eyes it was revealed
Things that had been once concealed.
Memories of who I’d been
Before the fall…
Before the time...
I’d built a wall
Brick by brick and stone by stone
Until I stood at once alone.
Built with years of silent tears...
Built upon life’s darkest fears...
Rejection, love’s infection wrapped
Around my heart.
A wall to keep a bitterness
From tearing it apart.
And then you looked into my eyes
And made me see
All that I could be
If I were free
Of all the baggage stored inside.
It was the turning of the tide.
A floodgate torn asunder
To the sound of my heart’s thunder.
Met in step to your words
Music then as it was heard.
I could not glance away.
For in your face I saw the glimpse of day
And my heart opened wide
Rushing forth from loneliness
To cross a great divide.
Met with the welcome of your smile
I took the steps of hope and faith
And lingered for awhile...
In the promise of your eyes,
I found a sweet salvation
Devoid of all disguise
That saved my soul
From death by grief’s damnation.
